Prof. Dr. GABRIELLA MEDVEGY
University of Pécs (Hungary)
Prof. Dr. Gabriella Madvegy is the dean and full professor at the University of Pécs, Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology in Pécs (Hungary) with its 3.000 Students. Responsible for Architecture Programs and accreditation of Architecture Study Programs at the University of Pécs (Hungary), the external ‘Architecture Minor’ Study Programs at Metropolitan State University of Denver (Colorado, USA), and ‘Pécs Innovation Class’ at the Hubei University of Technology Wuhan (China). She won visiting scholar grants within IASTE Program at Mr. Mannie Galea’s Architect Firm (Birkirkara, Malta, 2006), and „AYESA” Departamento de Edificación y Urbanismo (in Seville, Spain, 2004).
She leads courses at the University in Architecture Study Programs in the fields of Building Design, Design Methods, Complex Design, and Diploma Design. She has researched leading activities as a supervisor at the University’s’ Breuer Marcel Architectural Doctoral School with the current thesis subject: ‘New Wish of the City – After Urbanism!’ and others, with graduated and mentored doctoral students. Due to the continuous experiments, new topics are born and presentational materials are formed. She tends to present her research results to her students as far as her possibilities are concerned.
Based on her background in architecture and academic rules, she was an invited speaker at the EXPO 2020 Dubai (UAE, Dubai, Women’s Pavilion )/ Women’s World Majlis session on the topic “From City to Village: Ensuring access to resources in both urban and rural settings” (Curator: Ms. Emilija Stojmenova Duh, University of Ljubljana). She was the keynote speaker (2021) at the City for Tomorrow Conference with the title: “International Front Trends of Urban Renewal / The Sensitive City” at China Central Academy of Fine Arts, and presented after the selection of UAE, Dubai, Hungarian Pavilion: “HUNGARIAN NEST+”, with Mr. David OJO and Ms. Hajnalka JUHÁSZ in the frame of EXPO 2020 Dubai / Pre-Expo Urban and Rural Development Week / World Majlis session – Made for People – Making Livable and Loveable Public Spaces in 2021.
She reached her degree in Architecture at the University of Pécs (Hungary) in 2003 and studied at the University of Valencia (Spain) in the frame of the Erasmus Mobility Program. Her doctorate was absolved in 2006 with the masterpiece ‘Rehabilitation of Early Christian Cemetery in Pécs, UNESCO Protected Area – Graves in Apáca Str.’ She reaches language certificates in English and German languages.Since 2003 she has several buildings and awarded competitions, such as the FEIT É81_G56′ new educational building at UP FEIT within the Modern Cities Program (2019), the ‘UNIVERSITY BUSINESS CENTER (UBC)’ new educational building of UP FBE within the Modern Cities Program (2017), the new building of ‘SIKLÓS ATTORNEY’S OFFICE’ (2016), and the Customer Center of Pannon Volán (2016). She was the project leader of the international ‘ISD Uni project’ (Croatian – Hungarian regional-level international research in the field of architecture, making integrated regional development strategies, supported by the European Union), in the consortium of University Center Varaždin (Croatia), PTE, and the Government Office of Baranya County with ’best practice prize’.
She is a regular participant, member, and speaker at EAAE (European Association for Architectural Education) ’Research Academy’ / Scientific – development in post gradual education’ and at ENHSA (European Heads of European Schools) meetings, invited tutor at China University Union ’Four – Four Workshop’ (China) since 2015, and chairs scientific session at the regular Symposium (International Miklós Iványi Ph.D. & DLA Symposium) since 2014. She is responsible for the research project conducted at the University of Pécs, Hungary, within the framework of the ‘Biomedical Engineering Project of the Thematic Excellence Program 2019’ (TUDFO/51757-1/2019-ITM), with a special focus on Research Team ‘Well Being Research Incubator’. Here are several theories and results around the ‘Comfort Tool’, ‘Personal Well Being’, and ‘Parametric of Design’ in workplaces, with the high-level requirement of visual comfort, interior design, and human health.
She is chairperson of the diploma jury at regular diploma defenses, a member of the China Building Decoration Association, Hungarian Academy of Sciences – Regional Architecture Board, and the Chamber of Hungarian Architects and Association of Hungarian Architects, and appointed Honorary Member of the Hungarian Chamber of Engineers.
Her work was awarded by the Hungarian Government with Hungarian State Order ‘Worthy Cross’ according to the proposal of the Hungarian President (2020), she won the Magyary Zoltán Postdoctoral Excellence Scholarship within the ’National Excellence Program’ titled ’Contemporary Residential Building Design – in Practice’. (The research was carried out within the priority project, National Excellence Program of TÁMOP (Social Renewal Operational Programme) 4.2.4.A/2-11-1-2012-0001, and the award of ‘Junior Prime Prize’ in ‘ARCHITECTURE IN ART’ category (2012).
